Genuine Fraud

Genuine Fraud by E. Lockhart
My Rating – 4* – 5*
‘The story of a young woman whose diabolical smarts are her ticket into a charmed life. But how many times can someone reinvent themselves? You be the judge.

Imogen is a runaway heiress, an orphan, a cook, and a cheat.
Jule is a fighter, a social chameleon, and an athlete.
An intense friendship. A disappearance. A murder, or maybe two.
A bad romance, or maybe three.
Blunt objects, disguises, blood, and chocolate. The American dream, superheroes, spies, and villains.
A girl who refuses to give people what they want from her.
A girl who refuses to be the person she once was.’

I didn’t like We Were Liars very much, it just wasn’t for me and I was a bit apprehensive on picking this book up in case the characters and the writing was too like We Were Liars, I’m happy to say that I was pleasantly surprised by Genuine Fraud and I enjoyed it a LOT more than I thought I would.

I’m going to keep this review short because I think with this book it’s one of those that you should go in without knowing much, it makes the journey far more interesting and you will get more excited for all the plot twists that are in store.

For me the writing was amazing, I enjoyed the whole feel of the book a lot more than Lockhart’s other work, the book is also pretty short which is a bonus but don’t think that you are in for an easy ride, I swear my brain couldn’t take so many of these twists and turns in this book, I was mostly all like “WHAT THE HELL???” “I DON’T TRUST ____” & “OMG!!!!???!!!111”

Backwards, that’s what this book is, and by that I mean literally, we open with Jules our MC and what she is doing currently and then we work our way backwards as we get explained why Jules is doing what she’s doing, how it came to happen and all those lovely delicious stories that I was very excited for.

There were a few other things I enjoyed in this book such as all the travelling, seeing how the rich people live, it’s a messed up book, lots of murder.

Of course there were some things that I didn’t like in this book, which was well. Everyone? I mean they are all awful people and I didn’t really feel sorry for a lot of them, I thought Imogen was selfish and Jules was… weird? I don’t know.

BUT, overall this wasn’t a bad book, it was exciting and twisted and I was gripped straight away because this book gives you so many questions that you need answers straight away (lol like that happens).

Thank you to Marty @ The Cursed Books for buddy reading this with me! ❤️

So, have you read this book?
What did you think of it!?
