3History Is All You Left Me by Adam Silveria
My Rating – 5* – 5*
‘When Griffin’s first love and ex-boyfriend, Theo, dies in a drowning accident, his universe implodes. Even though Theo had moved to California for college and started seeing Jackson, Griffin never doubted Theo would come back to him when the time was right. But now, the future he’s been imagining for himself has gone far off course.
To make things worse, the only person who truly understands his heartache is Jackson. But no matter how much they open up to each other, Griffin’s downward spiral continues. He’s losing himself in his obsessive compulsions and destructive choices, and the secrets he’s been keeping are tearing him apart.
If Griffin is ever to rebuild his future, he must first confront his history, every last heartbreaking piece in the puzzle of his life.’
“I’ll never understand how time can make a moment feel as close as yesterday and as far as years.”
This book was breathtakingly beautiful!
This is the first book by Adam Silvera that I have actually read and I can say for sure that it won’t be the last, it was an emotional and powerful book and I thoroughly enjoyed every page of it! I feel like such a sensitive topic such as grief has been handled wonderfully in this book – after all everyone grieves differently.
The narrative goes back and forth between the past in which Theo is alive and his relationship with Griffin and into the present day in which Theo is dead and we follow Griffin as he deals with living a life that Theo doesn’t exist in anymore.
“History is nothing. It can be recycled or thrown away completely. It isn’t this sacred treasure chest I mistook it to be. We were something, but history isn’t enough to keep something alive forever.”
The book was beautifully written, it was emotional, raw, heart-breaking and so real.
I found it quite interested to read about Griffin’s OCD, I don’t have it myself nor do I know anyone who has had it so I can’t comment on how well that was written about but I enjoyed reading about a main character who has it.
Overall, this book was truly a beautiful read and I recommend it to everyone.
Did I cry?
