Rebel of the Sands by Alywn Hamilton
The first book in the Rebel of the Sands trilogy
My Rating – 5*/5*
‘She’s more gunpowder than girl—and the fate of the desert lies in her hands.
Mortals rule the desert nation of Miraji, but mystical beasts still roam the wild and barren wastes, and rumor has it that somewhere, djinni still practice their magic. But there’s nothing mystical or magical about Dustwalk, the dead-end town that Amani can’t wait to escape from.
Destined to wind up “wed or dead,” Amani’s counting on her sharpshooting skills to get her out of Dustwalk. When she meets Jin, a mysterious and devastatingly handsome foreigner, in a shooting contest, she figures he’s the perfect escape route. But in all her years spent dreaming of leaving home, she never imagined she’d gallop away on a mythical horse, fleeing the murderous Sultan’s army, with a fugitive who’s wanted for treason. And she’d never have predicted she’d fall in love with him… or that he’d help her unlock the powerful truth of who she really is.’
I HAVE no idea why it has taken me so long to pick this up, but believe me when I say that I’m kicking myself for not picking it up sooner because this book was amazing. I was actually quite surprised by how much I did end up liking it. When I did my post on my blog a few weeks back about series I wanted to start but haven’t gotten around to it, the amount of people that told me that Rebel of The Sands was amazing and I’d love it AND I COMPLETELY AGREE WITH THEM. It was amazing and I did love it.
Rebel of The Sands had everything I wanted, it was full of interesting characters, betrayal, kissing (YES!!!!), magic, a bad ass revolution. I mean, come on? What more do you need other than that??? I was about 3 chapters into this when I ordered the second book (please hurry up book depository).
I love Amani as our main character, she is a strong badass female who knows her way around a gun, she’s stubborn with a smart mouth and I thought she was amazing.
THEN THERE IS JIN.
Yep, caps is deserved there because I absolutely loved Jin. I loved the constant banter between Amani and him and then there was the romance – god I love these two together. NOTHING BETTER HAPPEN TO EITHER OF THEM IN THE SECOND BOOK OR I WILL RIOT.
So, not only does this book have awesome characters and a great setting (YAS DESERT), it also has some amazing legends/stories that were told in this that I found really interesting ?
Basically, I’m an idiot for taking so long to read this. The writing is amazing and fast paced, the setting is magical, the characters are bloody awesome and I WILL RECOMMEND THIS BOOK TO EVERYONE.
