Kings Cage (Red Queen #3)

Kings Cage by Victoria Aveyard
The third book in the red queen series.
528 Pages.
My rating – 4*/5
Mare Barrow is a prisoner, powerless without her lightning, tormented by her lethal mistakes. She lives at the mercy of a boy she once loved, a boy made of lies and betrayal. Now a king, Maven Calore continues weaving his dead mother’s web in an attempt to maintain control over his country—and his prisoner.

As Mare bears the weight of Silent Stone in the palace, her once-ragtag band of newbloods and Reds continue organizing, training, and expanding. They prepare for war, no longer able to linger in the shadows. And Cal, the exiled prince with his own claim on Mare’s heart, will stop at nothing to bring her back.

When blood turns on blood, and ability on ability, there may be no one left to put out the fire—leaving Norta as Mare knows it to burn all the way down.’

I know – I’m as shocked as you!
This book went from meh to enjoyable!!
I am so so so thankful that it happened, I mean don’t get me wrong I still hate Mare Barrow but this one was a lot more bearable than the others!

of course it was all hallelujah in the household because I have been waiting for this book to get better.

the mantra “don’t waste time reading bad books” I am glad that I didn’t stop reading these books just to get to this book!!! thank you to past Katherine for soldering on and taking one for the team (future Katherine) so I could enjoy this book.

so the good things about this book areeeeee 🙂

✿ I went into this book with 000000 expectations of it being something I would really enjoy, that definitely helped for me anyway because I found myself enjoy it a lot more than any of the other previous books in this series. go me!!

✿ I still don’t like mare but I found I enjoyed hating her and ranting about her, it brought joy to my boring life!

✿ maven’s mom is a total crazy psycho and is 100% the reason why maven is the way he is. he is after all his mother’s son??? sort of.

✿ maven as a villain in this book I really enjoyed but I don’t ship maven x mare, nah. not for me.

✿ the politics between the red’s and the silvers is super interesting in this book, I loved finding out more about the history of the red oppression and what maven will do to gain there “alliance” sorta.

✿ Cameron?? I loved her, she was cool and had an interesting back story that we actually got to learn about instead of in the previous book where we were introduced to a lot of different characters and then didn’t get to find out much about them 🙁

✿ a major character turns out be gay. totally fine with that and it wasn’t made a big deal or centre of the story!! yay you go glen coco.

✿ epic action filled scenes which I was totally ready for.

basically to sum up this weird review I actually enjoyed this book more than I thought it would. will I read the next book when it comes from? maybe I don’t no, mare barrow still annoy’s the hell out of me so y’no…..

I’d love to hear in the comment’s your thoughts on this book!! 🙂 🙂
