The Raven Boys (The Raven Cycle #1)

The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater.
The first book in The Raven Cycle Series.
409 Pages.
My Rating – 4.5*-5*
‘“There are only two reasons a non-seer would see a spirit on St. Mark’s Eve,” Neeve said. “Either you’re his true love . . . or you killed him.”

It is freezing in the churchyard, even before the dead arrive.

Every year, Blue Sargent stands next to her clairvoyant mother as the soon-to-be dead walk past. Blue herself never sees them—not until this year, when a boy emerges from the dark and speaks directly to her.

His name is Gansey, and Blue soon discovers that he is a rich student at Aglionby, the local private school. Blue has a policy of staying away from Aglionby boys. Known as Raven Boys, they can only mean trouble.

But Blue is drawn to Gansey, in a way she can’t entirely explain. He has it all—family money, good looks, devoted friends—but he’s looking for much more than that. He is on a quest that has encompassed three other Raven Boys: Adam, the scholarship student who resents all the privilege around him; Ronan, the fierce soul who ranges from anger to despair; and Noah, the taciturn watcher of the four, who notices many things but says very little.

For as long as she can remember, Blue has been warned that she will cause her true love to die. She never thought this would be a problem. But now, as her life becomes caught up in the strange and sinister world of the Raven Boys, she’s not so sure anymore.’

Soooo, I now have four new book boyfriends and their names are Gansey, Ronan, Noah and Adam! ?

I’ve read the first book in the Shiver Trilogy but other than that I haven’t read any books my Maggie Stiefvater so I was excited to get my hands on The Raven Cycle series. This book was creepy and brilliant with such interesting and unique characters. This book was very character driven and the boys & Blue were all so interesting and I love each one of them in their own special way.

Do I have a favourite?
Yeahhhhh.
I love Gansey the most (closely follow by the other three though), I thought he was the most interesting and he was genuine, also a little pretentious but he isn’t your usual typical rich boy, he is so different it’s refreshing!

Then there is Adam who is a scholarship student from an abusive family, I loved him so much he was so sweet and adorable and I like that he is so different to all the other characters, I felt a bit sorry for him sometimes but there were times when he did annoy me with the whole ‘money’ thing, I get that he doesn’t have any and doesn’t want Gansey’s help but still…..

Then there is Ronan the bad ass with a secret and Noah the mysterious quiet one. I also liked all the other side characters there were especially Blue’s odd psychic family, they made me laugh and then there were other times where I was a little creeped out by what they were saying, but still – the book really is mysterious and magical with a side of creepiness.

The writing is beautiful and I found myself drawn into it straight away, I enjoyed the multiple perspectives we got, getting to see it through many of the character’s eyes.

Although I loved this book, the only reason I didn’t rate it the full 5 stars was because the last 100 or so pages I was confused, everything felt so rushed and it all went so quickly and I felt like we didn’t really get much of an explanation??

I still can’t wait to get my hands on the second book and see what’s in store for the boy’s and blue :D??? Have you read the book?
What did you think of it?
Do you have a favourite Raven Boy?
